El Camino Real High won its first City Section wrestling championship since 1992 and its sixth in the past 10 years at Granada Hills High despite winning only one individual title.
El Camino Real totaled 157 1/2 points. Canoga Park (148 1/2) finished second, followed by Bell (141), San Fernando (101) and Granada Hills (88 1/2).
The Conquistadores placed five wrestlers in the finals, but only heavyweight Jeff Macrea won. Macrea pinned Alfonso Romo of San Fernando in 42 seconds to improve to 33-11.
Champions of 13 weight divisions advanced to the state finals next weekend in Stockton.
Hadi Jubrail of Canoga Park, who pinned Jarred Gabin of Granada Hills in 26 seconds in the 173-pound final, was selected the tournament’s most valuable wrestler.
