NUREYEV’S MAGIC

Re Martin Bernheimer’s “Nureyev Mania: The Afterlife” (Feb. 19):
I highly reject Bernheimer’s dismissive tone to an artist that was sent to us by the gods to do more than merely “entertain”--he elevated us! Yes, there were times when his work could make you sad, like when I saw him in Brussels, dancing in a stadium on a makeshift stage that made noise with his every jete, but even this was better than not seeing him at all. Yes, sad or not, he was his work .
You can ask anyone who ever saw Nureyev--if the man possessed anything that wasn’t for sale at Christie’s auction house, it was magic .
