Wetlands Group Monitors the Fed
We wish to clarify a statement attributed to the Campaign to Save California Wetlands in the article “Wetlands’ Amigos Loses Some Old Friends” (Feb. 12).
The (article) stated: “A spokeswoman for the campaign said no decision had been made on how to respond” to the request by Gordon LaBedz that we remove the Amigos de Bolsa Chica from our membership roster.
The fact is, as we explained to your reporter, there will be no response to this request, as the Campaign to Save California Wetlands does not take positions on local wetland projects.
The sad fact is the nation is facing a congressional freight train heading toward derailment of federal laws designed to protect the environment, especially wetlands.
The Campaign to Save California Wetlands is a statewide coalition of organizations joined together in order to fend off these attacks. California is at particular risk, having already lost more than 90% of its historic wetlands acreage, more than any other state.
We urge wetland activists everywhere to unite as never before to urge Congress not to dismantle laws that protect our wetlands.
