COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Virginia Ties Up ACC Title Picture

Virginia tied up the Atlantic Coast Conference as it never has been. The 13th-ranked Cavaliers defeated No. 6 Maryland, 92-67, Sunday at Charlottesville, Va., and the ACC finished in a four-way tie for first place for the first time in its 41-year history.
Wake Forest, North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia all finished the regular season with 12-4 records, and that’s the way they will be seeded by tiebreakers when the conference tournament gets under way this week in Greensboro, N.C.
Virginia (21-7) won for the ninth time in 10 games as Junior Burrough scored 24 points to help end a four-game winning streak by Maryland (22-6).
No. 3 Kansas 78, No. 18 Oklahoma State 62--Jacque Vaughn and Billy Thomas led the Jayhawks to their 42nd Big Eight Conference championship with a second-half charge at Lawrence, Kan.
Center Bryant Reeves of Oklahoma State (20-9, 10-4) went scoreless for the first time.
Kansas (10-3, 21-4) overcame a brilliant 45-point performance by Randy Rutherford.
No. 10 Michigan State 67, Indiana 61--Shawn Respert scored 23 points, including four free throws in the last 30 seconds at East Lansing, Mich., to help the Spartans move back into a tie for first place in the Big Ten.
The Spartans (21-4) and Purdue are each 13-3 in the conference. Indiana fell to 9-7 in the Big Ten and 17-11 overall.
St. John’s 86, No. 23 Georgetown 77--Freshman center Zendon Hamilton scored 21 points as St. John’s rallied in a Big East game at New York.
James Scott had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Red Storm (14-12, 7-11). Felipe Lopez had 15 points and Roshown McLeod 12, all in the second half.
Allen Iverson, another freshman, had 28 points for the Hoyas (18-8, 11-7).
No. 24 Iowa State 79, Nebraska 77--Julius Michalik made a 14-foot baseline shot with four seconds left in a Big Eight game at Lincoln, Neb. The Cornhuskers (17-12, 4-10) led most of the game until a Fred Hoiberg three-point play sparked a 9-2 run for Iowa State (20-9, 6-8).

Marcus Watkins made a pair of key three-point shots down the stretch as Tennessee-Chattanooga (19-10) rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit to beat Western Carolina (14-14), 63-61, at Asheville, N.C. to win its third consecutive Southern Conference tournament and qualify for the NCAA tournament. . . . Jason Miller scored 20 points as Temple (18-9) overpowered West Virginia (13-13), 84-72, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at Philadelphia. . . . Mount St. Mary’s of Maryland (18-11) qualified for its first Division I tournament bid with a 69-62 upset of Rider (17-12) in the Northeast Conference final at Lawrenceville, N.J.
