Hirtensteiner Wins Temporary Contract

Scheduled to retire at the end of this month, Ventura County’s Acting Chief Administrative Officer Robert Hirtensteiner on Tuesday was awarded a month-to-month contract to continue working until a permanent replacement is hired.

Hirtensteiner took over when former Chief Administrative Officer Richard Wittenberg announced late last year that he was leaving for a similar position in Santa Clara County.

The contract stipulates, however, that Hirtensteiner will not work for the county after June 30.

The acting chief will be paid $12,000 a month until the Board of Supervisors can find a replacement for Wittenberg, who worked for the county government for more than 17 years.

If Hirtensteiner leaves during the middle of the month, his salary will be prorated at the equivalent rate of $400 a day, under terms of the agreement the supervisors approved Tuesday.

Supervisors have said they would like to hire a permanent replacement for Wittenberg before July.
