The Technology Center at Orange Coast College is, appropriately enough, a model of high-tech energy efficiency.

By using special glass and other innovative elements, the college expects to save about $42,000 per year in energy costs.

The building has been praised by Southern California Edison, which recently presented the college with a $50,000 check through the utility’s Design for Excellence program.

The $9.6-million center opened for classes last August.

Among the courses offered there are computer graphics and machine technology.

More than 50 county business and civic leaders will model the latest fashions in the 17th annual Gentlemen’s Haberdashery luncheon and fashion show.

A panel of business and professional women will judge participants in various categories.

The show begins at 11:15 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. Tickets are $100. Proceeds will benefit the Heart of Jesus Retreat Center in Santa Ana, a center for children of all faiths.
