HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Jonas, Burbank Turn On Power, 21-8

Jason Jonas had four hits--all for extra bases--drove in five runs and scored three times to lead Burbank High to a 21-8 victory over Littlerock Thursday in a consolation game of the El Segundo tournament.

Two of Jonas’ hits were home runs.

His solo homer in the fourth gave Burbank a 8-0 lead and his two-run shot in the fifth gave the Bulldogs 2-1-1 a 15-6 advantage.

Simi Valley 12, Paramount 2--Adam Springston struck out five and gave up three hits in six innings for the Pioneers (2-1) in an El Segundo tournament game at Simi Valley.

Brian Kavanagh had two hits for Simi Valley including a home run, and David Krewson added two hits and two RBIs.

Chatsworth 11, Montclair Prep 2--Joe Tillmon doubled, hit a home run and scored three runs for the Chancellors (2-1) in a pool-play game of the Westside tournament.

Hueneme 10, Santa Monica 10--The Vikings were awarded the victory by Westside tournament rule in a game called because of darkness after five innings because Hueneme outhit Santa Monica, 10-7.

Jess Sanchez (1-0) picked up the victory in relief of starter Robert Aranda. Sanchez allowed three hits, six walks and three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. He also had two hits.

Kennedy 8, Poly 5--Pitcher David Soto (1-0) hit a two-run single in a four-run fourth inning that wiped out a 2-1 Poly lead in the nonconference game at Kennedy.

Keith Brydon blew the game open with a three-run home run in the fifth for Kennedy (2-1).

Nordhoff 8, Fillmore 6--Rusty Perry’s two-run single with one out in the fifth tied the game and the Rangers took the lead by scoring on a wild pitch just before the nonleague game at Nordhoff was called because of rain.

Perry had two hits and three RBIs. Nordhoff’s Mike Gardia was three for three.

Campbell Hall 15, Grace Brethren 5--Brian Kriegler was four for four with three RBIs for the Vikings in their season opener.

Andreas Fehrle homered and drove in three runs for Campbell Hall.

Viewpoint 22, Southwestern 0--The Patriots’ Matt Nesse (1-0) pitched a one-hitter, went four for four, stole four bases and drove in five runs in the nonleague game at Southwestern.

Peter Chizever added a three-run double and Kris Jones hit his first home run for Viewpoint (2-0).

Alhambra 3, Burroughs 2--Aryn Hart scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth when winning pitcher Juan Nunez (1-0) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the nonleague game at Alhambra.

SOFTBALL

Granada Hills 14, Canoga Park 0--Jessica Creith (3-1) pitched a no-hitter for the Highlanders in the nonconference game at Canoga Park.

Creith, a right-hander, struck out nine and walked one while facing one batter over the minimum for the Highlanders (3-1).

El Camino Real 15, Palisades 0--Ramona Shelburne hit a grand slam and Tami Jones had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Conquistadores (3-1) in the nonconference game.

Oak Park 4, L.A. Baptist 1--Julie Jensen doubled and tripled, and scored three runs for the Eagles in the nonleague game.

Poly 8, Eagle Rock 6--Marivel Velasco’s run-scoring single keyed a five-run fifth inning for the Parrots (3-0) in the nonconference game at Eagle Rock.

Birmingham 4, Taft 3--Pamala Buzick’s bases-loaded, two-run double in the fourth put the Braves (2-1) ahead to stay in the nonconference game at Birmingham.

Montclair Prep 18, Littlerock 0--Brandi Cohen (2-0) and Stephanie Aron combined for a no-hitter for the Mounties.

San Fernando 7, Carson 2--Valerie Perez had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers (2-3) in a nonconference game.

Buckley 14, Rolling Hills 6--Karen Pazara had four hits--including a home run and two triples-- and two RBIs for the Griffins (2-1) in a nonleague game at Buckley.

Kennedy 6, Monroe 1--Sandra Durazo struck out 11 and walked one for the Golden Cougars (2-0).

Moorpark 3, Fillmore 0--Tina Milburn’s RBI triple was all the Musketeers (1-1) needed in the nonleague game at Fillmore.

Notre Dame 4, Burbank 1--Angela Rotstein pitched a one-hitter and struck out four for the Knights (1-1) in the nonleague game.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Newbury Park 92, Rio Mesa 81, Oak Park 13--Andrea Wasden won four events for the Spartans, but the Panthers won the season-opening nonleague meet.

Wasden timed 12.5 seconds in the 100 meters, 25.8 in the 200, 14.8 in the 100 high hurdles and 47.4 in the 300 lows.

Chrissie Sanford won the 400 (1:02.7), high jump (5 feet) and triple jump (32-2) the Panthers.
