OXNARD : Strawberry Festival Officials Unveil Design for ’95 Poster

Share

Representatives of the 1995 California Strawberry Festival on Friday unveiled this year’s poster--a watercolor design depicting two super-sized strawberries surrounded by friendly bees and white flowers.

This year’s festival--to be held May 20 and 21 at the Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard--will be dedicated to the late Tsujio Kato, who chaired the popular event from its inception in 1984 until his death last month.

Kato’s widow, Sumiko Kato, will serve as the festival’s honorary chairwoman. She was presented the first poster signed by the artist, Nancy Marie Poltl.

Fifty limited-edition signed posters will be sold at the festival for $10 apiece. Regular posters will be available for $6 apiece.

Don DeArmond, who has been working for the festival since its inception, has been chosen to replace Kato as co-chairman, joining Ventura County Supervisor John K. Flynn, who has co-chaired the event since it began.

Proceeds from the California Strawberry Festival benefit more than 30 local nonprofit organizations. For information, call Oxnard’s special events office at 385-7578.
