SANTA PAULA : Hearings Scheduled on Landfill Expansion
- Share via
A regional trash agency has scheduled two public hearings this week on its proposal to expand the Toland Landfill near Santa Paula.
The Ventura Regional Sanitation District, which operates the Toland Landfill, will hold the first meeting Wednesday at the Santa Paula Community Center and its second meeting at the Memorial Building in Fillmore. Both meetings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.
If expanded, the Toland Landfill could handle west Ventura County trash after Oxnard’s Bailard Landfill closes.
Since the agency proposed the expansion of Toland, it has been criticized for not providing residents the opportunity to speak on the proposal.
Last month, the agency’s board of directors voted to launch an environmental study that could clear the way for a tenfold expansion of the dump’s capacity.
During the meetings, residents will be able to ask questions and express their views on the expansion project. To accommodate all speakers, agency officials ask that extensive comments be submitted in writing. For more information, call 658-4688.
