Four-Star Films : ‘Love Among the Ruins’

Share

George Cukor directed this Emmy-laden 1975 TV movie, his first for the small screen and the only teaming of Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier. In James Costigan’s Edwardian period romantic comedy, tinged with as much pathos as hilarity, Hepburn plays a rich retired actress faced with a breach-of-promise suit brought against her by a much-younger man. Olivier, an eminent barrister, is hired to defend her. To his immense chagrin, she fails to recognize him as a former lover who’s been carrying a torch for her for decades. Gallant, brave and wonderful (KABC early Thursday at 12:05 a.m.).
