LOS ANGELES : Freight Train Derailed by Stump on Tracks
A tree stump on the tracks derailed 25 freight cars in the South-Central area, officials said Thursday.
“It was a slow-speed accident,” said Mike Furtney, spokesman for San Francisco-based Southern Pacific Lines. “No one was injured,”
The train, powered by five engines, was bound for Long Beach from San Bernardino County when the cars derailed near 108th Street and Grandee Avenue at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Furtney said.
How the stump got on the tracks was not immediately determined.
