Obituaries : * The Rev. Floyd K. Gresset; Retired Pastor

The Rev. Floyd K. Gresset, a longtime Ventura resident and pastor, died Thursday in a Santa Paula convalescent hospital after a long illness. He was 91.

Gresset was born in Comanche, Tex., and moved to Ventura in 1946, where he was the pastor of the Avenue Community Church until 1984. He had a radio ministry on KVVC and KVEN.

He was also a friend of Johnny Cash and worked with the Johnny Cash Ministries, showing the film “The Gospel Road” in state prisons. Gresset was a past president of the Avenue Lions Club in Ventura.

He is survived by two sons, Carl Gresset of Sentinel, Okla., and Kenneth Gresset of Hunt, Tex.; two brothers, Dick Gresset of Santa Fe, N.M., and Jim Gresset of San Diego; a sister, Faye Martin of De Leon, Tex.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

His wife of 66 years, Ura Gresset, died in 1990.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura. The service will be under the direction of Gresset’s nephew, the Rev. Bernard Elms of Harvest Tabernacle of Pasadena.

Burial will follow in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo. Contributions may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura.
