At the turn of the century, Bolsa was a bustling crossroads town at what is today Bolsa Avenue and Brookhurst Street.

At its height, the town was home to a post office, business district and some homes. An 1885 Orange County directory praised the area for having “a fine public school.” The directory said Bolsa “is great dairy, hog, corn and alfalfa country. Businesses (include) the Bolsa Creamery, P.A. Raab, proprietor.”

Like many villages in the county, Bolsa declined as larger towns grew around it. After World War II, Bolsa’s distinct identity slowly faded and it was eventually swallowed up by Westminster.
