Huntington Beach’s code enforcement section is trying to put the brakes on inoperable vehicles parked in public view.

Since January, 1993, about 150 inoperable vehicles have been removed from streets in the city.

An inoperable vehicle is defined as one that doesn’t run and can’t be driven. Under city codes, such vehicles must be stored out of public view, such as inside garages.

By removing inoperable vehicles, code enforcement officers remove eyesores from the neighborhood and keep property values up, city officials said. The city recently received $5,000 from the Orange County Transportation Authority to help fund the effort.

An exhibition of weavings called “Textiles From Vanishing Cultures” continues at the Fullerton Museum Center.

The museum has on display flat textiles woven during the late 19th and early 20th centuries by people whose cultures are now threatened. Museum curator Valerie Justin said the textiles “reflect the lives and environments of their woman weavers.”

The show runs through April 30 at the museum, 301 N. Pomona Ave., Fullerton.
