COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Breeze in Baseball, 12-3
Catcher Brian Loyd had three hits and drove in four runs, and right-hander Ted Silva picked up his eighth victory against no losses Sunday as top-ranked Cal State Fullerton beat Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 12-3, in a nonconference baseball game at Titan Field.
It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Titans (23-3), who are off to the best start in the school’s history.
With the bases loaded, Loyd began the scoring with a two-out, pop-fly double in the first inning. Center fielder Brent Mitchell lost the ball in the sun and three Titan runners scored. Loyd scored on Joe Fraser’s single to make it 4-0.
After Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (9-10) scored runs in the second and fifth innings to come within one run of the Titans, Cal State Fullerton scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the eighth.
In the Rebel Springs softball games:
Chapman 1, Allegheny 0; Chapman 6, William Patterson 2--On the last day of the series, in which Chapman went undefeated at 9-0, Christy Guidorizzi had 13 strikeouts in the no-hitter in the first game. In the second game, Lisa Cancilla went two for four with one run batted in.
