Carpinteria resident Barney Conrad’s latest book, “Name Dropping,” recounts the antics of the celebrities who frequented El Matador, the San Francisco saloon he owned for 10 years. The prolific author of 25 books is a noted artist, former bullfighter and founder of the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference.

“The Santa Fe Trail” by David Lavender of Ojai has just been published by Holiday House. The wonderfully illustrated book for 8- to 12-year-olds describes the 60-year history of the 775-mile-long wagon road between frontier Missouri and Santa Fe, N.M.

Creating and Sharing Children’s Literature, an annual parent-child workshop recommended for students 8 to 14 is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Guthrie Hall at Ventura College.
