POMONA : Woman Charged With Kidnaping Baby Boy
A Downey woman accused of stealing an infant twin from his mother in Pomona was charged Thursday with kidnaping.
Joann Santos, 35, whose bail was recommended at $500,000, could be sentenced to up to 11 years in state prison if convicted.
Prosecutors contend that she took the infant Monday after giving the twins’ mother, Maria Magana, a ride to the Women’s Infant Children Assistance Center in Pomona. Santos had befriended Magana when she was pregnant, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Hyatt Seligman.
The baby was returned unharmed on Wednesday, after police found him at the defendant’s home in Downey, investigators said.
