A Tujunga man died on the Foothill Freeway after his car drifted onto the shoulder, struck a parked car and burst into flames, authorities said Tuesday.

The 27-year-old, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, held two jobs and may have been fatigued, California Highway Patrol Officer Gretchen Jacobs said.

The accident took place Monday evening when the man’s car veered from an eastbound lane of the Foothill Freeway onto the shoulder near Paxton Avenue.

The car crashed into another parked on the shoulder, trapping the driver inside as it burst into flames, authorities said.

The driver suffered head injuries and “because of damage to his vehicle he was stuck in there and consumed by the fire,” said Jacobs.

Two people in the parked car, Evelyn Carter, 62, of Santa Ana, and her son Charles Carter Jr., 37, of Orange, were not seriously injured. They had stopped to switch drivers.
