Ready for Howard Stern and the Raiders?

KLSX (97.1 FM), the station that carries Stern’s nationally syndicated morning show, will replace KFI as the Raiders’ flagship station.

“Classic football, classic rock--a winning combination,” said Raider attorney Amy Trask, who spearheaded the negotiations.

KLSX signed a multiyear deal with the Raiders on Friday and the team is expected to announce it today.

“What better sports relationship could we have?” said KLSX General Manager Bob Moore, who was general manager at KRLA when the Raiders were on that station (1985-88).

The Raiders were on KFI the last six seasons and on KNX their first three seasons in Los Angeles (1982-84).

Scott Nederlander, president of Nederlander Sports Marketing, the Raiders’ radio rights-holder since 1993, said: “KLSX has a bold, cutting-edge, forward-looking style that is so well suited to the dynamic nature of Raider football.”

Joel Meyers is expected to continue as the Raiders’ play-by-play announcer, but the death of commentator Bob Chandler in January has left the commentating situation unresolved. Mike Haynes worked with Meyers and Chandler the last two seasons.

Al LoCasale, the Raiders’ executive assistant, said KLSX will carry a considerable amount of Raider promotional programming not only surrounding games but also on weekdays during the football season.

LoCasale said the Raiders become the seventh NFL team to have an exclusive flagship deal with an FM station. Nine others have an AM-FM combination deal.
