Postal Efficiency
Regarding no Times story in particular, but instead the general trend of institution bashing in society and the media, I offer this: A friend called from Riverside the other day to thank me for a greeting I’d mailed from Irvine only the day before. Surprised at first, I soon recalled other accounts of postal efficiency from friends and co-workers. In fact, it dawned on me that I’ve never had a problem with the mail, save an occasional line at the post office.
I don’t work for the U.S. Postal Service; nor do my friends or family. And I’m no Pollyanna. But as we Americans continue to take the art of institution bashing--”bad cops,” “crummy schools,” “inept government”--to new heights, it’s nice to know some institutions occasionally work. Ask my friend in Riverside.
