Officer Kills Pit Bull in N. Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer shot and killed a pit bull after the animal allegedly charged at him, police said Saturday.
Officer Bob Crupi had just stopped a driver for an apparent traffic violation about 4:15 p.m. Friday when the pit bull--apparently running loose in the neighborhood--ran toward him, said Sgt. Christopher Vasquez.
Fearing that he was in danger, Crupi fired two shots, felling the snarling dog, Vasquez said. It died while being transported to a treatment center by workers for the city’s Animal Regulation Department.
Vasquez said the dog’s killing, which occurred near the corner of Emelita Street and Lankershim Boulevard, would be investigated just as any other officer-involved shooting would be. He said he had no information about the animal’s ownership.
