SANTA CLARITA — The body of a 56-year-old woman was found inside the remnants of a mobile home destroyed by an apparently accidental fire Tuesday morning, authorities said.
A neighbor noticed the fire at about 2:20 a.m. at 31002 Tick Canyon Road, authorities said. The trailer, on an isolated lot in a rural area east of town, was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived 13 minutes later.
“At this point it looks to be accidental, but we’re still working on the cause of the fire,” said David Westfield, an investigator for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The woman, whose identity was not known Thursday evening, apparently died before firefighters arrived, said Greg Cleveland, an inspector for the Fire Department.
An autopsy is expected to reveal the woman’s cause of death, said coroner’s spokesman Scott Carrier. He said the process could be lengthy because her body was badly burned.
