A man hiking in O’Melveny Park was rescued Friday afternoon by a city Fire Department helicopter crew after falling about 50 feet into a steep ravine.

A Fire Department official near the scene of the rescue in Granada Hills said the hiker, in his 30s, was conscious and talking when fire fighters arrived. He was hoisted from the canyon in a rescue basket and flown to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, said Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

The victim was in stable condition Friday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The man was hiking with a friend in a steep section of the park known as Sesnon Canyon when he fell into the ravine, Wells said. The friend ran to a neighboring home to call for help.
