Dana Point was named after Richard Henry Dana, a sailor in the 1830s.

In his 1835 book, “Two Hundred Years Before the Mast,” Dana colorfully describes the huge bluffs that have made Dana Point such a striking landmark for sailors and tourists. The book brought international fame to the headlands, which became known as Dana Point.

Today, the headlands remain one of the few undeveloped coastal areas in the county, though city officials are now discussing a development plan. Dana Point was incorporated as a city in 1989.

The YWCA of North County will present a class in family photography.

Bonnie Hartshorn will discuss how to cut and present a photo in a way that will tell a personal story. Captions and stickers can also add to a photo narrative of a family, she said.
