CS Fullerton Gains a Split in Softball
After being demolished by top-ranked Arizona’s power in the first game, third-ranked Cal State Fullerton came back to win, 9-4, in the second game and earn a split of a nonconference doubleheader at Fullerton.
Arizona (39-4) had three first-inning home runs in a 5-3 victory in the first game.
The Titans’ Jennifer Mortensen (10-3) limited Arizona to six hits in the second game for the victory.
Fullerton (26-11) used a wild pitch on a strikeout, two walks, and a hit batter for the first run of a four-run second.
Two more runs scored on a dropped fly ball and Fullerton added another run on Traci Fischer’s single in the fifth.
Tracie Noggle hit a home run and Rose Garces added a three-run homer as Fullerton scored four in the sixth to go ahead, 9-4. It was Noggle’s first and Garces’ fourth home run of the season.
Jenny Dalton hit her 17th home run, Laura Espinoza hit her 25th and Nancy Evans hit her second in the first inning of Game 1 for Arizona.
Espinoza hit her 26th home run in Game 2 for the Wildcats.
