NORTHRIDGE : Apartments Reopen After Quake Repairs

Saying it is an important symbol of the San Fernando Valley’s rebound after the Northridge earthquake, Los Angeles City Councilman Hal Bernson toasted the reopening of a large apartment building on Balboa Boulevard Monday.

“He said that each time one of these buildings is reopened, it is a sign to everyone else that they should have confidence in the San Fernando Valley,” said Francine Oschin, Bernson’s deputy chief of staff.

The two-story, 51-unit apartment building, located half a block north of Roscoe Boulevard, was red-tagged after the 1994 temblor. It is owned by the Kearny Street Real Estate Co. L. P., and managed by the E & S Ring Management Corp. The companies are trying to get new tenants for the blue-and-white, contemporary-style building.

Oschin said the rededication ceremony is one of a series of celebrations at earthquake-damaged buildings that Bernson will attend to show his support for rebuilding in his hard-hit northwest Valley district.
