SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The 1994-95 basketball season once again provided a showcase for San Gabriel Valley-area boys’ basketball players, who each year seem to appear more frequently on All-Southern Section and all-state teams.

There were no dominating centers in the area in 1994-95, but there was the usual complement of outstanding guards and forwards who shot, rebounded, passed and played defense on a level that will give many the opportunity to continue their careers in college.

Ten of those players, all of them seniors, are members of The Times’ 1995 San Gabriel Valley all-star team.

The all-stars were selected based on ballots cast by area coaches, all of whom were asked to participate, and a poll of Times sportswriters. The coaches were also asked to nominate a coach of the year.

Players named to the team, along with their parents and coaches, will be guests of The Times at an awards breakfast at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Pasadena Holiday Inn. The winners of the San Gabriel Valley player and coach of the year awards will be announced at the breakfast.

Here is a look at The Times’ 1995 All-San Gabriel Valley team:
