COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Northridge Pitchers Sweep Past Southern Utah

Jennifer Richardson pitched a six-hitter in the first game and Kathy Blake-Small pitched a one-hitter in the second as Cal State Northridge swept Southern Utah, 5-0, and 1-0, Friday in a Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader in Cedar City, Utah.

Blake-Small (17-5) was one out shy of a perfect game before allowing a bloop single to Tari Fowler. Blake-Small struck out 11 for the Matadors (33-12, 15-3 in conference play), who scored their only run on Tamara Silvera’s single in the second.

Richardson (9-4) struck out 14 in the opener.

Chelo Lopez and Christina Baioa each had two RBIs for Northridge, which made the most of its six hits.

Scia Maumausolo, who was hitting .486 at the start of the week, was a combined two for six in the doubleheader for the Matadors.

Antelope Valley 5, Pierce 1--Margaret Perez had three hits and drove in a run for the Marauders (27-12) in a nonconference victory at Pierce.

Mary Flores (10-5) struck out eight and walked three, scattering eight hits. Anna Calzada had two hits for Pierce (15-15) and scored the lone Brahma run after Gracie Ramirez’s sixth-inning single.

Canyons 2, Valley 0--Alanna Torres and Lisa Kelley singled in runs in the top of the seventh, leading the visiting Cougars (18-14, 6-7) in a Western State Conference game.

Valley had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Canyons ended the game with a second-to-first-to-home double play.

Lauren Fenstemaker (8-9) pitched a three-hitter for Canyons.

Moorpark 5, Bakersfield 4--The Raiders rallied after trailing by four and Andy Dominguez drove in the winning run in the seventh in a WSC game.

Liz Lopez, who had three hits, tied the game for Moorpark (18-10, 11-1) in the sixth with an RBI double.

Regina Neira hit a solo homer in the second for Bakersfield.

BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 22, Caltech 0--Matt Hernandez and Josh Parker combined on a perfect game for host Cal Lutheran in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.

Hernandez went six innings, allowing only one batter to reach a full count. Parker went the final three innings for the Kingsmen (19-10, 10-6). Cal Lutheran last season defeated Caltech, 32-0, on a seven-inning perfect game by Andrew Barber. Hernandez’s and Parker’s effort marked the fifth no-hitter recorded in Kingsmen history.

Jesse Ottele hit a three-run home run to conclude a seven-run Kingsmen first inning, and John Becker added four hits and four RBIs, including a three-run triple in the fourth.

MEN’S SWIMMING

Valley 71, Pierce 32--Bobby Bodrogligeti won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:57.1), the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.4) and anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay for the Monarchs (7-2, 4-1) in a Western State Conference meet at Pierce.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Valley 102, Pierce 21--Ann Choi won the 200-yard individual medley, the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle for the Monarchs (6-3, 3-2) in the Western State Conference meet at Pierce.

Teammate Shanyn Myers also won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and the 50 butterfly.
