HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Westlake Wins on a Hit and a Miscue, 6-5

Matt Riordan’s fourth hit and an error in the Agoura High outfield gave Westlake a 6-5 victory in a Marmonte League game Friday.

With two out in bottom of the seventh and the score tied, Brian Schuster hit his third single. When Riordan followed with a single, right fielder Lanny Wallace bobbled the ball, allowing Schuster to score.

Riordan is 14 for 23 with 11 runs batted in the last six games--including seven hits in eight at-bats this week.

Westlake (15-3, 6-2) moved into a first-place tie with Simi Valley and Camarillo.

Thousand Oaks 5, Royal 4--Jack Wilson’s first home run--with two out in the bottom of the seventh--gave the Lancers (12-8, 4-4) a Marmonte League victory.

Ryan Holmes added a solo homer and a run-scoring single for Thousand Oaks, and Santos Mummey (5-2) pitched his second complete game, scattering six hits, striking out four and walking two.

Royal (12-8, 4-4) scored four unearned runs.

Ventura 4, Buena 2--Marcus Tovar had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars (9-8, 6-2) in a Channel League game at Ventura.

Jeremy Pierce gave up three hits and struck out four in six innings for Ventura.

Rio Mesa 11, Dos Pueblos 5--The Spartans (13-4, 6-2) rallied from a five-run deficit to down the Chargers (9-8, 4-4) at Rio Mesa and remain in a first-place tie in the Channel League.

Charlie Bock’s two-run homer tied the game, 5-5, in the fifth and two-run singles by Ruben Delgado and Daniel Martinez in the sixth put the game away.

Calabasas 24, Nordhoff 3--Billy Hoover had three hits, including two doubles, drove in two runs and scored four, and Zach Fields had three hits and scored three times as the Coyotes (17-0, 9-0) pounded out 16 hits in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Tanner Trosper (5-0) held the Rangers (3-6 in league play) to one hit over 5 2/3 innings, striking out 11, and got support from Mike Melucci (two hits, five RBIs), Jared Sandler (two hits, four runs) and Brian Fatur (four RBIs).

Santa Paula 11, Santa Clara 8--Clayton Alamillo had four hits and knocked in three runs, and Robert Zavala added three hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the host Cardinals (10-5, 7-2) in a Frontier League game.

Littlerock 3, Highland 2--Bob Roberts doubled and scored the winning run on Frank Landano’s single in the seventh for the Lobos (1-3) in a Golden League game at Highland.

Clyde Thomas-Small scored the tying run in the fifth for the Bulldogs (5-12, 1-3) on Robert Reeves’ single.

Palmdale 12, Antelope Valley 4--Kevin Harmon had a three-run double and a run-scoring single for the Falcons (11-7, 3-1) in a Golden League game.

The victory, coupled with Quartz Hill’s loss to Ridgecrest Burroughs, created a three-way tie for the league lead among Palmdale, Burroughs and Quartz Hill.

Burbank 8, Canyon 1--Jason Jonas had two hits and drove in two runs, and Freddy Sanchez added two hits for the Bulldogs (6-10-1) in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

Avalon 4, Oakwood 1--John-Eric Hernandez pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 for the Lancers (8-0, 3-0) in a Liberty League game.

Hector Alegria’s two-run single in the fifth broke a 1-1 tie.

Buckley 13, Queen of Angels 4--John Hannish had three hits and scored three times for the Griffins (5-5, 4-2) in a Liberty League game.

Faith Baptist 12, Pacific Hills 2--Jay Carpenter slugged two doubles and a triple, driving in five runs for the Contenders (11-5, 3-1) in a Delphic League game.

Oak Park 18, Bishop Diego 5--The visiting Eagles (8-5, 6-1) cruised to a Tri-Valley League victory as Brent Schneiders had three hits and six RBIs.

Moorpark 15, Malibu 1--Brian Fortman had three hits and two RBIs for the Musketeers (6-9, 4-4) in a Frontier League game.

Newbury Park 10, Channel Islands 4--Mike Amundson pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven, and drove in three runs with three hits, including a home run, for the Panthers in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
