Despite some exceptionally small crowds, baseball attendance during the first week of the season was down only 4% from last April--partly because of heavy discounting by some teams.
“Given the situation of not having a lot of time to promote, it’s much too early to make any judgment,” acting Commissioner Bud Selig said.
Games the first week of the season averaged attendance of 28,234.
