Not Impressed With Mayor Young

Share

* I attended the goal-setting/strategic planning meetings held by the Port Hueneme City Council and management staff April 7 and 8 at the Dorill B. Wright Cultural Center.

Generally, I was impressed with the proceedings. Most of the council and all of the staff who were present communicated effectively in defining key programs by genuinely dealing with city issues. To me, the meeting represented a marriage of various philosophies and interests, resulting in an extraordinary amount of cooperation and effort.

However, I was disappointed with Mayor Toni Young’s participation. Her vision of the future of Port Hueneme appeared to be based on trivial and personal issues. She wants to get rid of the city’s beautiful trees. She won’t support redevelopment because it has created some vacant lots. At one point, the proceedings were held up about 30 minutes because of her lack of understanding with regard to redevelopment financing.

Time was wasted by requiring information on material that should have long ago become part of her bank of knowledge. Our voters deserve better from their mayor.
