COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Long Beach Scores in 9th, Tops Pepperdine
Long Beach State scored once in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Pepperdine, 4-3, Tuesday at Blair Field.
Jason Knupfer led off the ninth with a single and advanced to second on a groundout by Nic Frank. Pepperdine’s Dennis Twombley, in an attempt to pick off Knupfer, threw the ball into center field past Ryan Christenson, allowing Knupfer to score the winning run for Long Beach State (27-19-1).
Gabe Gonzalez (3-5) recorded his first victory since March 17.
In Big West Conference softball:
Long Beach State 2-4, Utah State 0-2--Sophomore Christy Tucker (9-12) pitched a one-hitter in the opener of a doubleheader. Tucker took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before allowing a one-out single by Julie Tanner. In the second game, Long Beach State (30-27, 13-13) scored four runs in the sixth. Utah State fell to 27-22, 14-10.
