Boy, 14, Dies After Being Hit by a Car
A 14-year-old West Hills boy died Saturday morning, more than 12 hours after he was struck by a car while riding his bike, authorities said.
Alex Ponce was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m. at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, where he had been airlifted in critical condition Friday night, a hospital spokesman said.
According to police, Ponce was pedaling south on Fallbrook Avenue and was crossing Saticoy Street about 7 p.m. Friday when he was struck.
Although Ponce was in the crosswalk when he was hit, witnesses told police the boy may have begun to cross shortly before the green light went on, said Police Officer Bill Rice.
The driver, Anna Nguyen, 20, of West Hills, was not cited.
