OXNARD : Library Trustees Honor Miedema
The Oxnard Library board of trustees have dedicated a meeting room in the city’s new public library for the late historian Madeline Miedema, a longtime Oxnard booster and community leader.
Miedema, who served on the library board from 1989 until her death last year at age 85, was a tireless advocate of education, parks and the preservation of early Oxnard history.
She was also a former librarian at the Carnegie Library in downtown Oxnard, which is now a museum.
Miedema is best known for her long career at the Oxnard Union High School District, where she served as a teacher, vice principal, administrator and school board trustee.
The library has also established a display case dedicated to local historical materials in Miedema’s honor.
The room was renamed Tuesday in a special ceremony at the library, located at 251 S. A St.
