Drama Departments Win Festival Honors

Drama departments at several Orange County campuses were awarded prizes at the 14th annual High School Theater Arts Festival.

Esperanza High in Yorba Linda won top honors in the musical theater category for “A. . .My Name Is Still Alive.” Dan Connelly, also of Esperanza, took first place in lighting design for “Lucky Stiff.”

Estancia High in Costa Mesa won first place in the classical humorous ensemble category for its production of “Two Noble Kinsmen.”

Shawn Fidler of Newport Harbor High was honored for scenic design work on “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

IRVINE

Woodbridge Show Choir Takes First

Woodbridge High School’s show choir, the Entertainers, won first place in its division at the 23rd annual Fullerton Jazz Festival. Woodbridge was one of 133 schools from throughout California competing in the event.

Recognition awards were presented to eight Woodbridge soloists: Angela Burgess, Jason del Campo, Justin Du Four, Alex Lepera, Valerie Manlongat, Kevin Odekirk, Amy Walker and Tom Wimmer.

The singers are directed by Susan Raskulinecz. Joslynne Blasdel directs the jazz band.

FULLERTON, LA HABRA

2 Schools Nominated for National Award

La Habra High School and Fullerton’s Sunny Hills High School have been nominated for the 1994-95 Blue Ribbon Award, the nation’s highest honor given to public schools.

A federal review panel will judge the local schools, along with 15 other California schools nominated for the award.

Winners will be announced in December.

Santa Margarita Knows Its History

Santa Margarita High School won eight of the 13 first- and second-place awards handed out during the recent Orange County History Day competition. The school now advances to the state competition, which will be May 22 through 24.

Santa Margarita students in the state competition are: Jennifer Turner, Jessica Pierog, Kendra Way, Adam Stone, Sean Genovese, Mike Rauterkus, John Schulte, Colleen Guilford, Beth Ranz, Aaron Kosins and Mark Nowicki.

TUSTIN

Lotus Donates Computer Software

Lotus Development Corp. of Irvine has donated more than $16,000 worth of computer software to Tustin High School.

The computer programs will be used for the school’s computer and business classes, administrative office, library, English and other departments.

“This is a major donation for our school,” said Bob Boies , the school principal.
