NCAA BASEBALL : Fullerton, Pepperdine Earn Berths
Top-ranked Cal State Fullerton and No. 18 Pepperdine earned automatic berths to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament Sunday, and USC wrapped up the Pacific 10’s Southern Division title with a 15-4 victory over Arizona at Tucson.
D.C. Olsen hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and pitcher Tim Dixon improved to 12-0 as Fullerton (49-9) won the first-ever Big West tournament with an 8-4 victory over No. 22 Long Beach State at Long Beach.
Pepperdine defeated Loyola Marymount, 11-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at Loyola to clinch the West Coast Conference title, the Waves’ seventh in the last 11 years, and won the nightcap, 16-8, to improve to 34-17-1. David Newhan had five hits, including two homers, and six RBIs.
