Dave Brown

Physical education teacher, South County

Brown, a teacher at Marco F. Forster Middle School, has been appointed head coach of Capistrano Valley High School’s football program. He had been the team’s defensive coordinator.

Brown becomes the fourth head football coach in the 17-year history of Capistrano Valley High School.

He was a member of the 1972 USC football team. He also played in the World Football League for two seasons.

Barbara O’Connor

Middle school principal, Los Alamitos

O’Connor will be the principal of Oak Middle School, to open next fall in the Los Alamitos Unified School District, beginning in July.

She is now principal at Vista View Middle School in Fountain Valley, in the Ocean View School District.

O’Connor has served in many educational roles, including teacher, assistant principal, elementary school principal and middle school principal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in comparative cultures from UC Irvine and a master’s degree in human development from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena.

Ronald E. Young

General manager, Irvine Ranch Water District

Young has won two top awards in the field of civil engineering.

The Institute for the Advancement of Engineering awarded Young the Leadership in Engineering Award for the design and development of water resources projects. Young also received the Orange County Engineering Council’s distinguished merit award for engineering accomplishments and leadership.

Young has a master’s degree in engineering from Loyola University of Los Angeles. He joined the water district in 1979 as the director of engineering and planning, becoming general manager in 1987.

Pamela C. Welty

College student, Garden Grove

Welty has $350 to apply to her education, thanks to the Abraam Krushkhov Memorial Scholarship fund. The foundation gives the award to students pursuing careers in municipal administration or urban planning.

The 25-year-old Garden Grove resident is a public administration major who hopes to earn a master’s degree in the field.

Maureen Aschoff

School board president, Orange

Assemblyman Mickey Conroy (R-Orange) selected Aschoff as Woman of the Year for the 71st Assembly District.

Conroy lauded Aschoff’s accomplishments as president of the Orange Unified School District’s Board of Education. He cited her goals “to provide a quality education for children while downsizing an educational bureaucracy.”
