LAKE FOREST : 2nd Interim City Manager Appointed

The City Council has appointed an interim city manager who will guide the selection of a permanent replacement for former top city administrator Gaylord Knapp.

Murray Warden, who has served as interim city manager in nine California cities, will begin working for the city Monday.

His first responsibility will be meeting individually with council members to determine the qualifications for a new city manager.

Warden most recently ran Encinitas for 10 months, ending last October. Before that assignment, he was interim city manager of Imperial Beach from June to December, 1993.

He replaces Fred Sorsabal, who filled in as Lake Forest city manager for a month following the April 19 resignation of Knapp, who had served since November, 1991, and was the city’s first city manager.

When Knapp’s contract was due to expire in December, the council renewed it for only six months.

Ironically, Sorsabal had been Lake Forest’s first choice when the newly incorporated city began looking for its first city manager in 1991.

However, Sorsabal decided to stay on as city manager of Mission Viejo, a job he retired from earlier this year.
