The New York Yankees put pitcher Jimmy Key on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation of the rotator cuff tendon in his left shoulder.

Key, 1-2 with a 5.64 earned-run average, has pitched 30 1/3 innings in his five starts this season since returning from shoulder surgery last October.

“It’s like a dull pain in my shoulder that won’t go away,” Key said. “It’s just a constant ache at my release point, I have a pain that goes down my arm to my biceps. As much as I tried to block it out, I couldn’t. I tried today to throw, [but] it’s basically the same.”

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Salomon Torres from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Shawn Estes and infielder Wilson Delgado. Torres was assigned to triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners also got pitcher Steve Frey from the Giants for future considerations.

Torres, 23, was 0-1 with an 8.00 ERA in four games with the Giants before being sent to triple-A Phoenix on May 16. He was 5-14 with a 5.19 ERA in parts of three seasons with San Francisco, mostly as a starter.
