GARDEN GROVE : 4 Seniors Are Finalists for Elks Scholarships

Four seniors from two local high schools have advanced from the local and state rounds to become national finalists in the Elks Foundation college scholarship program, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Unified School District said.

Cindy Than, David Browne and Bryan Choi of La Quinta High School and Rene Gonzalez of Rancho Alamitos High School already have won a total of $29,000 for college from their participation in the Elks’ city, regional and state scholarship programs this year.

By advancing to the national level, each is eligible for a minimum of $4,000 more, spokesman Alan Trudell said.

The students qualified as national scholarship candidates following their selection as winners at the state level.

Browne placed first and Choi placed second in the state. Than placed sixth and Gonzalez placed 30th statewide, Trudell said.

National scholarship winners will be announced later this month, he said.
