Fifth-seeded Cal State Fullerton will open the Women’s College World Series Thursday in Oklahoma City against fourth-seeded Nevada Las Vegas and No. 2 UCLA will start against seventh-seeded Iowa.

The other first-round pairings in the double-elimination tournament will send top-seeded Arizona (63-5) against Princeton (49-11) and third-seeded Southwest Louisiana (48-7) against Michigan (50-10).

Fullerton (45-15) plays Big West Conference champion UNLV (47-12) at 12:30 p.m. (PDT). UCLA (46-6) faces Iowa (39-24-1) at 6:30 p.m.

Fullerton Coach Judi Garman was disappointed that the Titans weren’t among the top four seeded teams.

“The seedings were wrong from the beginning,” Garman said. The Titans are ranked third in the national coaches poll, but were seeded behind Cal State Northridge in the Northridge regional. Fullerton went unbeaten in the regional, defeating Northridge, 2-1, in the championship game.

UNLV won the Big West championship with a 27-5 record; Fullerton was 20-8 in conference play. The teams split two doubleheaders during the regular season.
