Chrissy Konno

Savanna, Senior

Softball/Pitcher

Konno started this season as the Rebels’ backup pitcher, but the primary starter was declared academically ineligible just before the Orange League season started. Konno has stepped in admirably. Although she doesn’t have a power pitch, Konno is able to frustrate opponents by keeping the ball low and away. Friday, she hamstrung Glendora St. Lucy’s, the third-seeded team and defending champion in the Division III playoffs, pitching a four-hitter in a 2-0 first-round victory. Today, the Rebels play host to Palmdale Highland.

Softball

Marie Gieron

* Foothill, junior. Pitched a no-hitter, her first of the season, in the Knights’ 8-0 victory over Walnut in the Division I playoffs. Also went three for three with two runs batted in.

Cyndi Tredway

* Los Alamitos, sophomore. Hit a two-run homer as the Griffins beat San Clemente, 2-0, in the first round of the Division I playoffs.

Track and field

Tara Oettinger

* Foothill, senior. Won the section Division II long jump with a county-leading mark of 19 feet 5 1/4. Had three jumps over 19 feet after struggling with injuries this season.

Courtney Pugmire

* Esperanza, senior. Won section Division I titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Won the 1,600 in 4 minutes 51.33 seconds and the 3,200 in 10:38.46. Helped Aztecs finish second in the team competition.
