Boxing Is Brutal but Can’t Be Banned
This letter is for all the Mensa members crying out for the abolishment of boxing [Viewpoint, May 27].
Boxing is a brutal and dangerous sport, but for someone to say abolishment is the answer is both ignorant and shortsighted.
Believe me, boxing will exist in some form, legal or illegal. At least this way, it can be regulated and in most instances the fighters have a chance.
I do think boxing needs many changes. How about referees and judges who are not afraid to do the right thing, regardless of who owns them (see Don King and Bob Arum)?
