SIMI VALLEY : Driver Charged in Death of Bicyclist
Prosecutors on Monday charged a 64-year-old Simi Valley woman with misdemeanor vehicular homicide in the death of a 13-year-old bicyclist struck in a crosswalk a month ago.
Deputy Dist. Atty. John Cardoza said the charge was filed against Penelope Reeps in Ventura County Municipal Court. He did not know when the woman would be arraigned.
Travis Peterson of Simi Valley died May 7 at Simi Valley Hospital, two days after suffering head injuries in the accident.
The accident occurred at Erringer Road and Elizondo Street. Travis was wearing a hockey helmet that fell off his head before he hit the ground, police said.
Reeps is suspected of failing to stop and of driving at an unsafe speed.
