SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A 74-year-old woman remains partially paralyzed and a 21-year-old woman in serious condition following a two-vehicle weekend accident that killed a 19-year-old woman, authorities said Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating the cause of the Saturday morning accident that killed Delena Bitter of Canyon Country when the vehicle in which she was riding rolled over, said Deputy Mike Shapiro of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. He said the vehicle was traveling east on Soledad Canyon Road near Canyon Country Park when the driver lost control, hitting the center median.

“The impact caused the Jeep to go airborne a few feet and then a Honda Civic driving westbound broadsides the Jeep,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro said Bitter, who was wearing her seat belt, was apparently killed by injuries sustained as the vehicle rolled over.

The driver, Traci Glenn, 21, of Provo, Utah, had critical head injuries after being thrown from the uncovered vehicle, Shapiro said. Her condition at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills has been ungraded to serious. She is conscious and talking with family members, he said.

The other driver, Kay Moreno, 44, of Canyon Country, had relatively minor injuries, Shapiro said. Her mother, Lorraine Frost of Lake Havasu, Ariz., had a broken neck that has left her partially paralyzed, plus numerous other head and upper body injuries.

Frost was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Administrative Supervisor Lois Colgis said.
