Panel OKs $8 Million for Local Projects
A key House subcommittee has recommended approval of nearly $8 million for Ventura County water, harbor and coastal projects, officials in the office of Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) announced Wednesday.
Included in the $18.7-billion bill for projects across the nation were $2 million to help prevent flooding along Santa Paula Creek and another $2 million to improve the quality of drinking water in the city of Port Hueneme.
The bill also includes $300,000 for a shoreline protection study in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and $300,000 for the Port of Hueneme to study navigational channels.
Ventura County’s three harbors would also benefit under the bill, which allocates $2.2 million for Ventura Harbor, $890,000 for the Channel Islands Harbor and $135,000 for Port Hueneme.
The bill, which was approved Wednesday by the House Water and Energy Subcommittee, moves to the House Appropriations Committee, where it will be considered Tuesday.
If approved by the Appropriations Committee, the bill would move to the House floor for a vote and then on to the Senate for consideration there.
