COSTA MESA : Mesa Consolidated Water District Reduces Rate Hike
Facing pressure from its customers, the Mesa Consolidated Water District has reduced the amount of a recently approved rate increase.
The board had voted last week to raise the basic rate by $2 and increase the cost of a unit of water by 4 cents. The changes would have raised an average bimonthly water bill by $3.28 to $54.92.
But at the district’s meeting this week, director Mario Durante said he wanted to revisit the issue after taking phone calls over the weekend from angry customers.
The agency has said repeatedly that rates must be increased to make up for higher prices it will have to pay its water suppliers in the next fiscal year.
Customers have argued the district could offset the high cost of water by making administrative cuts.
