AMERICAN LEGION NOTEBOOK : All-Stars to See the Light
The American Legion District 20 East-West All-Star Game, usually played on Sunday, has been scheduled for Tuesday night, July 11, at Burroughs High. It is the same night as the major league All-Star Game. . . .
District 20 has been reduced from 30 teams to 28. . . .
The District 20 tournament has been reduced from 10 teams to eight, with the winner advancing to the Area 6 playoffs July 27-30 at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Field. . . .
The state tournament, which will be held Aug. 5-8, is returning to Yountville, near Napa. . . .
Last year, separate tournaments were held in Northern and Southern California because the facilities in Yountville were being renovated. . . .
The state champion will advance to a regional tournament in Las Vegas, Aug. 17-23, and the state runner-up will play in Yakima, Wash., on the same dates. . . .
The Legion World Series will be held Aug. 23-30 in Fargo, N.D. . . .
A potential path to the World Series this year--UCLA, Yountville, Las Vegas, Fargo--would be the same one that was traveled by the now-defunct Newbury Oaks team on its way to the title in 1992.
