After two long delays, a crowd of 1,823 saw Gary Schroeder of Burbank grab his third Three-Quarter Midget main-event victory at Ventura Raceway.

Schroeder held off points leader Steve Alexander of Torrance in the 20-lap race after fending off challenges by Marc Hart of Ventura and Scott Hansen of Simi Valley.

Steve Kellick of Ventura was third and Hart came back to finish fourth after losing traction in a corner with four laps remaining.

Schroeder, who won races on three continents in 1994, took the lead on the first lap after starting outside on the front row.

The race was stopped and re-started after Jimmy May of Ventura and Rob Hansen of Simi Valley collided and flipped in the third turn on the first lap.

Hansen walked away unscathed. May, complaining of chest pains, was examined by paramedics who decided not to take him to a hospital.

Tom Stansberry of Bakersfield won the 20-lap Dwarf Car feature, taking the lead on the second lap after starting in the fourth sport. Rob Hansen of Simi Valley finished second.

Billy Boat of Phoenix added to his points lead with his third consecutive Midget feature race victory.
