Navratilova-Graf Team Withdraws from Doubles
The women’s doubles team of Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf, scheduled to make its debut at Wimbledon today, has withdrawn.
The Women’s Tennis Assn. announced late Tuesday night that Graf withdrew from doubles because she “did not want to aggravate her back.”
Graf won her first-round singles match Tuesday and said afterward that her sometime back problem--a bone spur on a vertebra--was fine.
The Navratilova-Graf team was seeded third and today’s match was highly anticipated. Graf rarely plays doubles and Navratilova, who retired from singles competition last year, was looking forward to playing at Wimbledon, where she won nine singles titles.
